Global Warming Presentation

Problem & Solution

Global warming is one of the most serious challenges facing us today. If we stop a moment and ask ourselves what are the causes of global warming everybody will answer “us”. So if we are the main causes for this huge disaster we must reduce our emissions of heat-trapping gases by using the technology. The definition of global warming is an increase in the earth's temperature due to fossil fuels, industry, and agricultural processes caused by human, natural, and other gas emissions. Temperatures have increased by 0.75 °C (1.35 °F) relative to the period 1860–1900; according to the instrumental temperature record ("Global Warming" Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia http://en.wikipedia.org/). If the temperatures continue to increase it will lead to melting polar ice-caps and then will raise the sea level, which could cause flooding affecting millions of people.
I measured my carbon footprint in ("Carbon Footprint." WWF Footprint Calculator http://footprint.wwf.org.uk/).and it was 3.30. It’s actually close to my class average which was 3.86. By the way, the United Arab Emirates recorded the highest rate of carbon footprint in the world per person. So I think I’m a normal person compared to my friends, because we have a desert climate so we need air-conditioners to cool ourselves. Personally I believe in solar energy, therefore we must use it because it’s a clean energy.
An Inconvenient Truth is a movie which talks about the global warming and climate changes directed by Davis Guggenheim and presented by Albert Arnold "Al" Gore. It talked about the huge increasing number of the population and the results of it. Brandon Fibbs agrees with Al Gore that our planet is heating up and that we are primarily responsible for it ("Review." Brandon Fibbs http://www.bigpicturebigsound.com/article_765.shtml). Also he said that if things are even half as bad as Al Gore says in his show, we are very likely looking at the end of all humankind. Scott commented that the movie doesn’t seem to be about global warming ("Inconvenient Truth." ThreeMovieBuffs.com: Movie Reviews! Scott..)

Cool City

According to the video the whole world nowadays is facing a big problem which is population pressure & CO2 emissions. If the governments don't act to solve these problems, we'll need another earth to live in but as everyone knows that is clearly impossible. Because only the governments could affect people. We must reduce the carbon emissions by 50%. In Japan during the last 30 years, the energy efficiency has increased by 37% and oil consumption decreased by 8%. Compared to the other nations Japan has the lowest rate in carbon emissions, for example France, UK and Italy. About 90% of the carbon dioxide that comes to the earth is from buildings and transport. There are a group of Japanese companies called SDCJ which contains 11 corporations; they begin to accomplish a cool earth project for the Gulf region. They will develop cool cities with high technologies and a big cool city network. They will be connected by a public transportation system. The cool city is an environmentally friendly green city with minimal CO2 emissions. There will be heat-reducing techniques which such as tree-planting, waterways and rooftop membranes.
Opinion:-
Personally, I believe that it will be a great idea to reduce the carbon emissions but I think it’s not suitable for locals. The foreigners will have a good chance with this project because it will be similar with their lifestyle.

Traditions weigh on China's women summary

China is the only country where the number of women who commit suicide is greater than the men. Many women attempted to take their own lives but few of them succeed. The suicide rate in the rural area is three times higher than in the cities. The head of the Suicide Prevention in China, says that it’s easy to find poisons in agricultural areas. Some rural women try to use the pesticide to commit suicide; they just grab some of it and drink it. Suicide attempts may often be impulsive, but they are the result of burdens on rural women. Customs and traditions in China urge grooms to buy the bride, and then she becomes part of his family. The head of the Suicide Prevention believes that these traditional things lead to emotional problems for young wives who leave their own family and friends to enter an alien environment. Also she estimates that 70-80% of suicides are the direct result of conflicts between husbands and wives. If a woman goes to live with her husband's family and they treat her well, the suicide rate will decrease quickly. Some women attempt suicide as a way of asking for better treatment from their husbands. But traditional attitudes are hard to change. According to the official figures, for every one hundred baby girls born in China 117 boys are born. Women will face an even more terrible future in 20 years time.

Main idea:

The number of women in China is decreasing because of suicide. The government tries to find a solution for this problem. They have studied the advantages and the disadvantages for this problem, and what could happen in the future.

Opinion:

Personally, I believe that the women in China must have better treatment from their husbands. They can solve this problem since China is the most populous country in the world. The government must prevent poisons, and try to find another way to kill insects; for example get animals that feed on those insects. Although, they can publish articles that encourage people not to commit suicide.

My Carbon Footprint

I measured my carbon footprint in http://footprint.wwf.org.uk/ and it was 3.30.

The carbon footprint is actually greenhouse gases which come from companies, hotels, factories, etc. My carbon footprint rate is close to my class aver

age which was 4.0. The United Arab Emirates have the highest rate of carbon footprint in the world per person.
There are many steps to reduce my carbon footprint.
Travel: I travel usually once a year when I go overseas. But inside the city I always travel by my own car. I never travel by bus or train. Honestly I hate buses because I think they are producing too much footprint. Personally, I go to Ras Al Khaimh every week and I think that’s why my footprint is high. I must reduce the number of trips I do every day to decrease my carbon footprint.
Home: My meals are usually based on rice and chicken. I eat sometimes meat and fish twice a week. I think my food is healthy because I hate fast food and I like vegetables. To be honest I don’t like sports but I try to keep my body fit and healthy as much as I can.

Review's

A favorable review:

Brandon Fibbs, http://www.bigpicturebigsound.com/article_765.shtml , Says:

Because there is so much evidence in Al Gore’s movie and most of the scientists agree with him. I also agree with him about the global warming, because he showed us some pictures and some graphs that explain what he was trying to tell us. Al Gore’s movie viewed some after and before photos to convent his message. Brandon agrees with Al Gore that our planet is heating up and that we are primarily responsible for it. Also he said that if things are even half as bad as Al Gore says in his show, we are very likely looking at the end of all humankind. I disagree with him on this point, because Al Gore made the things much bigger than it looks like. Even though Al Gore says that in a few years we will face a lot of troubles because of melting water, I think that it will be much longer. In my opinion everyone who sees this movie will feel guilty and he will do something about global warming.

An unfavorable review:

Scott, http://www.threemoviebuffs.com/review.php?movieID=inconvenienttruth , Says:

There are three important negative points that he thinks are bad. The first and foremost point is that Al Gore jokes against Bush and other Republicans. The second point is that the central point of the movie doesn’t seem to be about global warming. The third point is that Al Gore talks about his sister and it isn’t relevant to the subject. When his sister died from cancer and he says that we must not grow tobacco from now on. Scott felt sorry so do I, but he should not try to emotionally manipulate us with that fact. If I were Al Gore I would do the same thing, that I must let the show be more interesting and funny; that’s why I disagree with Scott’s points.

My opinion:

I think that Al Gore did a great job, by convincing the people all around the world about the global warming. By the way, this wasn’t an easy job that Al Gore did. He is a perfect man and deserves praise. His show contains everything about the global warming and it has all the information about what might happen to the earth in the future.
